"Conversations about Donor Relations"

November 6, 2008 - Program Summary

With about 45 people in attendance on a rainy, cold afternoon Megan Abbett, the Director of Donor Relations at Simmons College, and Danielle Stephenson, Director of Donor Relations at Children's Hospital Trust began our Brown Bag lunch, hosted by City Year. They spoke about Donor Relations, the role it plays at both of their institutions, and its importance within the development world.

Speakers Megan Abbett and Danielle Stephenson

After giving the group an overview of their shops and the role Donor Relations plays within each institution both externally and internally, they each highlighted case studies that reiterated the importance of making that call to a donor to thank them, and understanding the skill of listening to the donor and their needs and wants. This led to a great Q&A session where attendees were able to ask questions as well as relate some experiences of their own that might help out someone in another shop.

At the end attendees walked away with some valuable information and certainly a better understanding of Donor Relations and the possibilities it has to develop in their own organizations.
